Over the years, the African publishing industry has evolved both in form and content. With a history spanning over fifty years, the industry has experienced gains and challenges in equal measure. There have been the debates on what defines and qualifies it; there has been the impact of the iconic African Writers Series that took the continent’s literary scene by storm, and many efforts have been made to internationalize the African book. The never-ending piracy and copyright issues, the inexistent or silent African Book Publishing Policies, the political and economic cards at play, and the current digital publishing realities are also issues that have shaped the African publishing industry.
